Borehole Project

Jambo Roses has a strong sense of corporate social responsibility, this is why we contributed to the construction of a borehole in Buswa, Uganda, providing the community with clean water.

The nearest well to the village was miles away, forcing residents to walk for hours. A lot of Jambo’s staff members live in Buswa, and voiced their concerns about the situation.

On the occasions when workers have to do late shifts, and need to get clean water on their way home for cooking, cleaning, showering and drinking can be extremely time consuming, and dangerous especially for women and children during late hours.

This resulted in a lot of locals drinking dirty water from the nearby swamp out of convenience, affecting their overall health, and making them more susceptible to water born diseases.

The project was implemented in March 2019, with the help of Fairtrade to construct a borehole in the village, so that the entire community would have access to clean water, and a second borehole was constructed closer to educational institutions so that the schools nearby had closer access as well.

This has led to better hygiene and sanitation, as well as empowered the community to be more responsible for the maintenance and safety of the construction with the help of the community council. It has also helped women become more independent, giving them safe access to clean water has allowed them to create their own small businesses.

The borehole construction has led to the fast development of Buswa Village, resulting in developers wanting to buy land nearby because of the access to clean water.
